Nearly half a century ago, the Wild Hammer package arrived to excited Camaro SS fans, offering horsepower-pumping V8 power plus improved suspension and beefy brakes—all for an additional $1,000. With this package, drivers could take their performance to the next level.

With the introduction of the 1968 Wild Hammer package, the Camaro RS experienced an upscale upgrade. This luxuriously powerful model came with a 350-horsepower engine, in addition to convenient features such as power windows and power seats, increasing the total cost by a whopping $2,000.

In 1969, the Wild Hammer package expanded yet again, introducing the powerful Camaro Z28 as part of its features. Equipped with a 375-horsepower V8 engine, improved suspension and larger brakes, the Z28 was priced at an additional $3,000 on top of the Wild Hammer package.

After its ’69 model year, the Wild Hammer package bid farewell and made way for the arrival of Chevrolet’s COPO 9561—a special performance package that introduced a hefty 427 cubic-inch V8 motor.
