As one of the most renowned cartoonists of the twentieth century, Jack Hamm made an indelible mark on the comic strip and cartoon artforms. He was born in 1901 Philadelphia and, within a handful of years, kicked off his career in newspaper art. Humor and satire were staples of his illustrations, allowing him to rapidly build a loyal admirership across decades of work that lasted nearly six decades.
During the 1930s, Hamm began his journey into animation, crafting contributions for many beloved cartoons such as Betty Boop and Popeye. He meticulously scripted and illustrated strips as well, including the renowned “Dumb Dora” and his acclaimed “Dingbat Family” comics series.
Following North America’s engagement in the World War II, Hamm served his country proudly in the United States Army and crafted an impressive assortment of cartoons for military periodicals. Once peace had been restored, he returned to the realm of animation yet also ventured forth to put words and illustrations together for a series of books catered towards youths.
Working up until his retirement in the early 70s, Hamm eventually passed away in 1988, having lived to the ripe age of 87.

During the Second World War, Hamm briefly enlisted in the US Army, and utilized his artistic talents to craft cartoons which were then published by various military publications. Upon his conclusion of military service, he shifted his attention back to animation, as well as created and illustrated a succession of children’s literature.
Even up until retirement in the 1970s, Hamm kept active and working. By the time he passed away in 1988, his life had stretched to 87 years.
