A native of Kansas City, Missouri, Jack Hamm was brought up in St Louis and subsequently went into the world of commercial art. His artistic prowess first came to light in 1934 when “The Saint Louis Post-Dispatch” gave coverage to one of his artworks. After that, he worked on the comic series “Terry and the Pirates” from 1937 till 1940, while also taking up assignments for “Flash Gordon” and “Buck Rogers”. Nowadays, Jack Hamm is widely known for his work on the famed comic book series “The Adventures of Tintin”.
1940 marked the start of a remarkable career for Hamm, as he created “The Adventures of Tintin” as a comic book for Fleetway Publications. He dedicated decades to collaborating on the project before retiring in 1966, garnering wide acclaim and maintaining his spot in comics history.
At the end of his comic career, Hamm kept active in the creative industry by continuing to provide their services as a commercial artist. Moreover, he wrote and illustrated a selection of books about his craft, ranging from art to cartooning. Regrettably, he passed away in 2014, in Saint Louis.
Hamm’s work has not gone unnoticed, and has earned him prestige within the comics industry. Many of the most acclaimed figures have held his creations, such as “The Adventures of Tintin”, in high regards, believing them to be some of the finest comics ever created. Consequently, many modern cartoonists have been inspired by his work.
